Grandstream Android App?

I’m hearing some rumblings about Grandstream Android apps coming.  I’ve found one so far, the Total Control app which works with Grandstream’s GXV3615 Series cameras.  It’s a pay app, and it’s not as easy to use as the IP Vision app for iPhone, but it does work and for Android users it’s at least a start.  Stay tuned for more.

Grandstream iPhone App Demo (IPVision)

TTrix publishes the IPVision app for iPhone.  This is the app that allows you to monitor Grandstream IP cameras. Click here for more information.

They put up an awesome online demo here using Panasonic cameras as an example.  The app works the same with Grandstream cameras and it’s really fun to use.

Contest: Win a Free GXV3615 and GXV3140!

Grandstream wants you to “like” them on Facebook.  Do it by May 31 and you’ll have a chance to win one each free GXV3615 and GXV3140.

Wait, why am I telling you this?  Now you’re going to do it, and it will cut down on my chances of winning.  So nevermind, forget I mentioned anything.

Deciding Between Analog and IP

If you asked me even a couple of years ago, I would have told you that you should probably invest in IP cameras knowing that eventually they’d grow to support so many more advanced features – but I wouldn’t have made fun of you for choosing analog cameras from proven manufacturers like Sony or Panasonic.  It’s amazing how much the IP CCTV / IP security camera marketplace has developed since.  IP cameras today offer higher resolution picture, enhanced audio support, a greater selection of advanced features, and much more system flexibility.  As Epygi CEO Mario Cuello wrote recently, “deciding between the two systems (analog and IP) may be tough but the answer is actually simple – go IP.”  He even names Grandstream in the article, citing a recent deployment of GXV series IP cameras used in tandem with Epygi’s Quadro M IP-PBX.  This seems to indicate that Epygi is yet another popular IP-PBX vendor to embrace Grandstream’s IP surveillance cameras.

Caught!

Grandstream GXV3601 cameras catch an armed robbery in progress at a store in Buenos Aires.  This was a standard definition camera, but the picture is still pretty damn good as you can see.  Pretty scary stuff.  If you or any of your customers are wondering why they should bother investing in IP security cameras, this video makes a pretty convincing argument.

Grandstream VMS List Growing

Grandstream’s IP security cameras use the h.264 video standard and integrate SIP audio technology, so they should work with most of the popular video monitoring solutions (VMS). That being said, it gives the installer more piece of mind to know that the cameras they choose will be interoperable with the the VMS they want to run.

Grandstream seems to be adding more official VMS partners all the time, and they of course also offer their own free basic VMS called GSurf which is actually pretty decent.  The cameras are also ONVIF compliant so that should lead to more easy VMS integrations as well.  We’ll update you as the list grows, but with the recent addition of Netcamara, we figured now might be the time to point out the current Grandstream VMS options:

GSurf

Asterisk

Digifort

Codestuff

Logiware

Milestone

Genetec

Netcamara

Now go forth and install with confidence!

Use Your iPhone to Monitor Grandstream IP Cameras

I’ve been holding out on upgrading to the iPhone for years because (a) I was relatively satisfied with my Verizon service and (b) the iPhone didn’t really boast any compelling features that I couldn’t find in a Droid or Blackberry.   Well, I’m running out of excuses and this news from Grandstream may be the last straw.

A popular iPhone app called “IP Vision” now allows you to monitor your Grandstream IP surveillance cameras anywhere, anytime.  I borrowed an iPhone to investigate, and much to my “dismay” the app is easy to configure, the picture quality is excellent, etc.  Grandstream even added this special configuration guide to their new website to make things easier.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar app for Blackberry or Android in the not-so-distant future, but can I really wait? Damn you Grandstream, I think I’m getting an iPhone.

Hot Off the Press Release: Interoperability w/ Netcamera VMS

Grandstream’s IP CCTV cameras have been certified interoperable with Netcamara VMS.  Netcamara is very popular video monitoring solution in Argentina, Spain, Columbia, Chile, and Mexico.  Check out the official press release here to learn all the details.
